The Role of Nutrition in Diabetes Management
The purpose of this roundtable is to present the newest concepts in diabetes nutrition. Recent research on nutrition in diabetes management shows that we can prevent development of type 2 diabetes through lifestyle factors such as proper nutrition, physical activity and weight management. Many other recent studies show that control of blood glucose in patients who are hospitalized can lower risk for infections, shorten length of stay, and even reduce risk of death. Some solutions to prevent, delay or treat diabetes can be found in the form of new nutritional ingredients and supplements, while other strategies involve consumption of usual food in balance and in proper amounts.
The new insights gained in the Diabetes Nutrition Roundtable will challenge clinical and scientific colleagues to turn knowledge into actions that will improve the health and well-being of millions of people with or at-risk-for diabetes.
