GROWTH SUMMIT: ADVANCING NUTRITION SCIENCE FOR OPTIMAL CHILDHOOD GROWTH

4th International Conference on Nutrition & Growth 2017, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Malnutrition: The Child At-Risk

Robert Murray, MD, FAAP
Professor of Pediatrics
The Ohio State University
Columbus, Ohio, USA

Dr Murray reviews recent evidence regarding the use of nutrition intervention to promote catch-up growth as early as four weeks in children at nutritional risk. Early intervention with quality dietary intake, oral nutritional supplementation, dietary counseling, and close follow-up care can help mitigate risk for long term effects on linear growth, body composition, and neurocognitive development. Dr Murray also explains the exceptional case of the nutrient-consuming and rapidly growing brain during the first 1,000 days of life.
