As health care providers, we have an inherent desire to provide the best high quality care to all clients. Professional standards of care include the need to provide culturally sensitive care to all clients.

This program presents an overview of the basic values, beliefs and practices of certain ethnic or racial groups. This information will enhance the quality of services offered to minority clients and their families.

Program Objectives:
* Discuss the relevance of cultural competence in practice.

* Identify the components of cultural competency.

* Develop effective strategies in providing cultural competent services.

Faculty Name: Cora Munoz, PhD, RN

Title: Professor in Nursing at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio

Bio:
Dr. Munoz is a professor in nursing at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. She received her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Columbia University in New York City, and earned her doctoral degree from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Munoz has assumed a variety of clinical, teaching and administrative positions in nursing, education and counseling. She has spoken both nationally and internationally on topics such as transcultural care, psychiatric/mental health, nutrition and health, counseling and tobacco prevention education.
