Course Description:

In this course, you’ll review evidence-based nutrition guidelines for pressure injury prevention and treatment; learn about a team-based approach to optimize the nutritional management of pressure injuries; and more. This course is supported through a medical education grant from Abbott Nutrition.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain clinical outcomes and risks for patients who are malnourished or who have low lean body mass.
  • Review evidence-based guidelines supporting nutrition intervention as part of pressure ulcer prevention and treatment.
  • Assess the cost of oral nutritional supplementation compared to the cost of pressure injury treatment.
  • Examine the role of nutrition screening, assessment, and intervention as key components of the health care team's approach to pressure injury prevention and treatment.
  • Employ a health care team approach to optimize nutritional management to help prevent the development of pressure injury and to manage existing injuries.
