To improve the pharmacist's ability to counsel and manage patients with diabetes through nutrition counseling and planning.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, the pharmacist should be able to:

  1. Describe the role of the community pharmacist in the provision of nutrition counseling for patients living with diabetes.
  2. Recognize oral nutrition supplements available in the community pharmacy planogram marketed toward patients living with diabetes.
  3. Identify over-the-counter (OTC) medication as well as natural products promoted for weight management.
  4. Summarize recommendations provided by the community pharmacist for patients living with diabetes to promote healthy living, through diet and exercise.
