Course Description:

In this article, Jodi Ulloa, DNP, APRN-CNP, NNP-BC and Stephanie Sykes, DNP, APRN-CNP, NNP-BC will define current clinical controversies for neonatal providers surrounding the diagnosis of patent ductus arteriosus in the infant population; outline differences between an insignificant and hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus; and describe current treatment modalities for patent ductus arteriosus.

Dr Jodi A. Ulloa has over 35 years of experience in various NICU nursing roles: registered nurse, transport nurse, charge nurse, and assistant manager in Kansas, California, Louisiana, Missouri, and Ohio. She has been a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner since 1999 at Nationwide Children's Hospital Level IV NICU. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Washburn University, her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Capital University, and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Ohio State University. Dr Ulloa has also served on committees to include: Quality Improvement, Therapeutic Hypothermia for Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, and Electronic Medical Records multidisciplinary committee. Dr Ulloa is a member of National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN), National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NANNP), the local Central Ohio Chapter of NANN (COA-NANN) and has participated in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program as an instructor since 1994. Dr Ulloa has a husband Mark, a cat, and a dog, two children, and one grandchild - residing in California and Texas.

Dr Stephanie Sykes is an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) Specialty Track Director at The Ohio State University. She earned her BSN from Capital University, her MSN from The Ohio State University and her DNP from University of Akron. She serves on the National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NANNP) Nominations Committee and is active in community outreach as a Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Instructor Mentor and Lead STABLE program instructor. She has been a NNP at Akron Children’s Hospital since 2008 where she practices clinically at the level IV NICU plus affiliated level III NICUs/high-risk delivery centers.
