Course Description:

This is part 2 of a 2-part course. In this course, you’ll discuss how to evaluate micronutrient deficiencies in adult patients; summarize the types and stages of edema; review how to conduct a hand grip strength assessment; and watch demonstrations on how to assess for micronutrient deficiencies and functional status.

Mary Litchford, PhD, RDN, LDN, is an internationally recognized speaker, author, and consultant to health care providers. She received her PhD in human nutrition from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Her professional career has included clinical practice, university teaching, and business consulting. She is president of CASE Software & Books, a professional and educational resource company. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and served on the Academy’s Evidence Analysis Work Groups on wound care and hydration. In 2018 she received the Academy’s Excellence in Practice Award for Consultation and Business Practice. She is currently the Immediate Past President of the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and serves as one of the NPUAP representatives on the International Clinical Practice Guidelines Governance Group.

Ashley Bronston, MS, RDN, LD is a program manager for the Abbott Nutrition Health Institute, where she helps to develop nutrition-focused continuing education programs for healthcare professionals. In 2017, Ashley received the Innovators Achievement Award from the International Council on Active Aging for developing and pilot testing a nutrition-based falls prevention class for older adults. She holds a Master’s degree in Medical Dietetics through The Ohio State University and a dual major Bachelor’s degree from Mansfield University in Dietetics and Sports Nutrition. While at OSU, she obtained training in an advanced interdisciplinary leadership program, focused primarily on health promotion, prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and follow up care for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities. During her spare time, Ashley serves on the ASPEN Membership Committee, the Ohio Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Newsletter & Social Media Committee, the Columbus Dietetic Association Board, and as an Editor for the Academy’s Healthy Aging Dietetic Practice Group’s Newsletter.
