This video provides an animated summary from a recently published systematic review and meta-analysis that summarized the effects of ONS on catch-up growth for 9 months to 12-year-old children with undernutrition. Outcomes analyzed were changes in height, weight, body mass index, age, and sex-specific Z-scores and percentiles.

Oral nutritional supplements (ONS) can help restore growth and improve growth parameters in children with shortfalls associated with undernutrition. A recently published systemic review and meta-analysis summarized the effects of ONS on catch-up growth for 9-month to 12-year-old children with undernutrition. Eleven randomized controlled trials were included in the meta-analysis representing 2,287 children with mild to moderate malnutrition. The outcomes analyzed were changes in height, weight, body mass index, age and sex-specific Z-scores and percentiles.

This four-minute video provides an animated summary of the article "Effect of Oral Nutritional Supplementation on Growth in Children with Undernutrition: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis," available in the August 2021 issue of Nutrients (authors: Zhiying Zhang, Fei Li, Bridget A Hannon, Deborah S. Hustead, Marion M Aw, Zhongyuan Liu, Khun Aik Chuah, Yen Ling Low, Dieu TT Huynh).
