112th Abbott Nutrition Research Conference Selected Summaries

Publish Date: 2011

The purpose of this conference is to explore the impact of maternal nutrition and health on near term growth and development of the offspring as it relates to the propensity for cardiometabolic diseases later in life. Developmental programming is an area of research that has gained, and continues to gain, momentum. This model asserts that it is the choices made and conditions faced in early life (prenatal and immediate postnatal periods) that potentially have the greatest impact on health and disease in later years. A mother's nutritional decisions during pregnancy could be the most important ones she makes in the health of her child.

Below is the conference newsletter, written summaries of all presentations at the conference and selected video presentations. We hope you will get a broad perspective on the myriad ways pregnancy nutrition influences the long-term health of the offspring.
