Dietetics professionals are improving patient outcomes and changing the culture of malnutrition diagnosis and intervention by leading and coordinating quality care with interdisciplinary teams. This session will demonstrate how dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) are implementing the MQii and the malnutrition electronic quality measures (eCQMs) to capture key nutrition care, diagnosis, and intervention data and outcomes that matter to patients, physicians, nurses and administrators in the hospital and post-discharge.

In Ms. Phillip’s role as Division Director of Clinical Support at Morrison Healthcare, she provides regulatory oversight for clinical nutrition services at ~160 hospitals from California to Michigan and directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical nutrition programs and services. Ms. Phillips has worked with Morrison’s corporate operations and wellness/nutrition teams to lead a productivity analysis program and outcomes measurement studies for registered dietitians to ensure efficient and effective use of resources and leads program development for ambulatory nutrition programs. She is the Public Policy Chair of the Utah Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Chair of the Academy’s Consumer Protection and Licensure Committee, the Chair-Elect for the Clinical Nutrition Management DPG, and the Director of Communication and Marketing for the Dietitians in Nutrition Support DPG. She has championed legislative updates to Virginia and Utah regulations to allow greater flexibility for order writing privileges for dietitians in hospitals and long-term care facilities. She has authored several articles related to malnutrition.

Rajesh Kumari is Manager of Clinical Nutrition services for Overlook Medical Center (OMC), Atlantic Health system. She is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) who has worked in the field of Nutrition of health care for the past twenty years. Recently, she graduated with Doctor of Science in Holistic Nutrition from Hawthorn University. Recent program initiatives include EHR system diet order rebuild, dietitians diet order writing privilege policy implementation, rebuilding the nutrition assessment documentation and development of comprehensive malnutrition identification and care program and leader for geriatric task force and NICHE Committee. She led her organization MQii initiative in 2018 and continuing with the initiative planning the program for 2019.

Dr. Philip Brown serves as Dr. Philip Brown serves as Executive Vice-President and Chief Physician Executive at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. Living and practicing in his hometown, Dr. Brown has enjoyed the privilege of serving his community as a General and Vascular Surgeon since 2004.
Dr. Brown completed medical school and general surgery residency at Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina prior to his Vascular Fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He has served in numerous leadership positions including present service as Co-Director of The North Carolina Medical Society Foundation’s Kanof Institute for Physician Leadership. Dr. Brown, his wife Christy, and their two children are living testaments to what it means to serve others and are strongly rooted in the Wilmington community. In his role as Chief Physician Executive, Dr. Brown leads the health equity strategic initiative at NHRMC. As such, he is charged with leading highly effective teams that identify health disparities within the community and work to eliminate them through data collection and stratification, innovative healthcare redesign, and alignment of community partnerships. Under his leadership, the Food Strategy team has been able to begin breaking down the barriers associated with food insecurity across the continuum of care.at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. Living and practicing in his hometown, Dr. Brown has enjoyed the privilege of serving his community as a General and Vascular Surgeon since 2004.
Angela Lago, MS, RD, LDN, CNSC

Angela is the Clinical Nutrition Manager at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she has worked since 2008. She is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a member of the Clinical Nutrition Management dietetics practice group, serving on the Professional Development Committee. Angela obtained her BS in Nutrition from East Carolina University in 1999 and completed her dietetic internship at Winthrop University in 2001. She earned her MS in Nutrition from East Carolina University in 2006 and has been a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician since 2009. Angela has been a part of the MQii Learning Collaborative since 2017 and has focused on Malnutrition throughout the continuum of care for the hospitalized patient, most recently shifting her focus to the Transition of Care for the malnourished patient upon discharge. Angela and her team were awarded a Duke Endowment Grant to help further their work in the malnourished patient population. Angela was awarded The People’s Choice Award at the 2019 Clinical Nutrition Manager Symposium for her poster titled, Bridging the Gap from Hospital to Home: Implementation of a Malnutrition Transitions of Care Program.
