Role of Glycemia-Targeted Specialized Nutrition in the Management of Prediabetes and Diabetes
Glycemia-Targeted Specialized Nutrition (GTSN) is a complete and balanced nutritional supplement used as a meal/calorie replacement for weight loss and improved glycemic control in the management of prediabetes and diabetes. Recent data showed that GTSN not only reduces postprandial blood glucose, decreases glucose variability, but also reduces insulin dose for patients treated with insulin and decreases the need for insulin to control hypoglycemia.
New findings have shown that the use of GTSN in hospitalized patients with diabetes was associated with significantly improved healthcare efficiency with reduction in length of stay and hospitalization cost. The postulated value of GTSN for discharged patients with diabetes is the reduction of readmissions.
