Prof Pedro Alarcon is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist currently based in Chicago, USA. He earned his medical degree, with specialization in pediatrics, and a Doctorate from Universidad Nacional Mayor San Marcos in Lima. Subsequently, he completed a Fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, New York - State University of New York (SUNY). He also has a Master in Business & Marketing from The College of Lake County, Grayslake Illinois, USA. Additional postgraduate training provided Dr Alarcon with international experience during fellowships at the Children’s Hospital of Vienna, Austria and at the Children’s Hospital of Zurich (Fanconi Clinic) in Switzerland. He is the founder of the first pediatric gastroenterology and research service in Peru. Having received multiple grants from universities such as Johns Hopkins, Davis-California and the WHO for the execution of clinical studies on nutrition and diarrhea. He has worked until 2013 as International Medical Director for Abbott Nutrition in Chicago, Illinois. At present, he serves as a reviewer for journals in the field of Pediatrics, Nutrition, Gastroenterology like British Journal of Nutrition, JAMA pediatrics, Acta Paediatrica, etc. Prof. Alarcon has been involved in designing and executing multiple clinical trials and published numerous papers on pediatric clinical nutrition in peer- reviewed journals and has authored chapters in books on infant nutrition.
