Course Description:

In this course, Jamie Owens, RN, IBCLC will describe the benefits of human milk and breastfeeding for mother and infant; review support strategies to overcome issues and barriers to breastfeeding; and discuss breastfeeding support using telemedicine and during the pandemic. Jamie Owens earned her BA from Syracuse University in 2006 and her BSN at Quinnipiac University in 2008. As a Registered Nurse, Jamie has specialized in Women’s Health since 2008. She worked in the Postpartum Unit at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell as a nurse for more than 5 years, assisting thousands of mothers in their breastfeeding journeys and addressing all their postpartum needs. She was a co-chair president of the Breastfeeding Task Force, acted as charge nurse on the unit, and was a preceptor for many new nurses. She then moved to the Labor and Delivery Unit where she assisted in c-section and vaginal delivery, natural and medicated births, and helped infants in their first latch. Jamie is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), who has worked in private practice since 2012. She started her own company Jamie Owens Lactation, LLC, in 2015. Jamie teaches prenatal breastfeeding classes, provides telemedicine, offers home visits in her practice, and is known for her compassionate and passionate dedication and care. She contributed as a "Breastfeeding Expert” and freelance writer for the online company Mother.ly which brings expert advice on motherhood to parents around the world. Jamie is a practitioner on Maven providing Telehealth on-demand breastfeeding support. She is a mother to two young children and is currently breastfeeding her younger child.
