Course Description:

In this course, you’ll identify four pediatric chronic health conditions that are associated with malnutrition; discuss nutritional interventions to prevent or correct growth faltering in children; and outline the current recommendations for the nutritional assessment, intervention and monitoring of Crohn's Disease. Originally presented on March 7, 2019 at the 6th International Conference on Nutrition & Growth.

Bruno Hauser, MD, PhD

Dr. Hauser specializes in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. Earlier in his career, he worked as a general paediatrician at the Kliniek Zusters van Barmhartigheid in Ronse and as a consultant for paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the children’s hospital of the UZ Brussel. Currently, Dr. Hauser is the head of clinic in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition children’s hospital of the UZ Brussel. His clinical research lies in the field of gastric emptying (subject of this PhD thesis), cow’s milk protein allergy, cystic fibrosis, gastro-oesophageal reflux, helicobacter pylori infection, inflammatory bowel disease and probiotics. He has published about one hundred Pubmed cited papers and has given numerous oral and poster presentations at international and national congresses and symposia. He is a member of the Medical Council of the UZ Brussel and is a board member of the Belgian Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He is also member of several international and national paediatric scientific societies.

Julie Lanigan, PhD, RD

Dr. Lanigan is a certified dietitian with more than 20 years of experience in nutrition research. She is dedicated to improving health outcomes in infants and children, which led her to purse a PhD in nutrition from the University College of London, School of Life and Medical Sciences. A key player in the execution of complex large-scale clinical trials investigating effects of nutritional interventions in early life on long-term health. Dr. Lanigan is experienced in working with multi-disciplinary teams in research and development, program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. She plays a key role by working at the interface between clinical practice, research, policy and industry.

Robert Murray, MD

Dr. Robert Murray spent over 20 years in the field of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition in the Ohio State University School of Medicine and most recently was the director of the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition. He also served as the pediatric medical director for Abbott Nutrition from 2003-2006. For 10 years Dr Murray was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Council on School Health, serving as chair in the final 4 years. He is a Board member of Action for Healthy Kids as well as of the Children’s Hunger Alliance, and previously served on the Board of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation. Dr Murray is the immediate past-President of the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
