The Protein-Energy Wasting Syndrome in Chronic Kidney Disease
Course Description:
In this course, you’ll review the prevalence of protein-energy wasting (PEW) in chronic kidney disease (CKD); discuss the causes of anorexia and undernutrition that lead to PEW; discuss the causes of inflammation and hypermetabolism that lead to PEW; and describe the implications of PEW on important patient outcomes.Course Objectives:
• Review the prevalence of protein-energy wasting (PEW) in chronic kidney disease.• Discuss the causes of anorexia and undernutrition that lead to PEW.
• Discuss the causes of inflammation and hypermetabolism that lead to PEW.
• Describe the implications of PEW on important patient outcomes.
