Course Description:

In this course, Marsha Dumm, MS, RDN, LD will describe current US standards and best practices for human milk and formula handling in the hospital setting; discuss the scope of services, staffing, and structure of a centralized human milk and formula preparation area; and outline quality improvement and safety monitoring necessary for a centralized feeding preparation room or area. Originally presented as a live webinar on November 7, 2023.

Marsha Dumm, MS, RDN, LD completed a Master of Science in Human Nutrition at The Ohio State University and spent over 25 years as a neonatal nutritionist in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to daily nutrition care of high-risk and preterm infants, she developed expertise in handling human milk and formula feedings. She has consulted in more than 30 hospitals nationwide to develop protocols for establishing milk rooms, preparing feedings using aseptic techniques, and conducting ongoing quality improvement. She is a contributor to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Pocket Guide to Neonatal Nutrition and Samour and King's Pediatric Nutrition in Clinical Care.
