Course Description:

In this course, you’ll learn about the developmental anatomy of the neonatal heart; review how to interpret an EKG wave; describe the practice of cardiovascular system assessment; and more!

Course Objectives:

• Describe the developmental anatomy of the neonatal heart. 
• Describe functions of the electrical conduction system and interpret an EKG wave. 
• Describe the practices of cardiovascular system assessment, normal ranges for vital signs, and considerations for review and surveillance. 
• Discuss the etiology and treatment of shock.

Mary Kaminski, DNP, APRN, NNP-BC is the Manager for Nursing Health Care Education for Abbott Nutrition Health Institute (ANHI) and a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Kaminski received her MS in perinatal nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) from The Ohio State University. She has been working in the field of neonatal nursing for over 30 years. She has worked as a clinical nurse specialist, program manager and clinical nurse educator. Mary developed the NNP certificate program at then Columbus Children’s Hospital and went on to teach at The Ohio State University for over 12 years in their NNP Program. She has helped over 250 students become NNP’s over her career. Mary has been an active volunteer on the national and local level for National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) and NANNP (National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners). She is an accomplished author, having contributed to peer reviewed journals and textbook chapters. Her interests include NNP education and professional development, Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPHN) and the surgical neonate.

Bonnie recently retired from the position of manager of Nursing Education for the Abbott Nutrition Health Institute, Abbott Laboratories. However, she continues to work as an educational consultant with ANHI. She also maintains an adjunct professor position at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. She has over 35 years of experience in clinical, clinical research, educational and administrative positions within nursing. Her passion is in the NICU and her presentations combine evidence-based research with practical application. She lectures across the country on neonatal clinical topics and professional development topics such as effective communication and Intergenerational teams.
