Course Description:

In this course, Angela L. Bingham, PharmD will summarize the new 2022 American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) guidelines for the provision of nutrition support therapy in the adult critically ill patient; illustrate differences between the 2022 ASPEN and 2016 ASPEN/Society of Critical Care Medicine guidelines; discuss practical guidance on the implementation of the new guidelines; and discuss next steps for the ASPEN guidelines. Originally presented as a live webinar on May 24, 2022.

Course Objectives:

• Summarize the new 2022 American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) guidelines for the provision of nutrition support therapy in the adult critically ill patient. 
• Illustrate differences between the 2022 ASPEN and 2016 ASPEN/Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) guidelines regarding energy intake, protein intake, and enteral nutrition versus parenteral nutrition. 
• Discuss practical guidance on the implementation of the new guidelines in clinical practice and the next steps for the ASPEN guidelines.

Angela L. Bingham is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Director of the PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program, and Vice Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacy Administration, University of Sciences, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, in Pennsylvania. She also serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and a critical care/nutrition support clinical pharmacy specialist at Cooper University Health Care in Camden, New Jersey. Dr. Bingham received her PharmD from the South Carolina College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina. She is a board-certified critical care pharmacist as well as a board-certified nutrition support pharmacist. Dr. Bingham has extensive teaching experience, has authored 3 book chapters, and has published numerous journal articles. She is Chair of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties Nutrition Support Pharmacy Specialty Council and American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Pharmacy Practice Section.
