Carbohydrates, Mood and Cognition
Abstract:Does carbohydrate consumption influence how we think and feel? Can a sugary drink improve mood and memory? Do the effects of aging and dementia reflect changes in glucose metabolism? Prof Benton discusses the clinical evidence and reviews several studies suggesting that carbohydrates play an important role in brain function beyond basal metabolism. Prof Benton also reviews the evidence showing that better glucose tolerance is associated with better memory.
