Course Description:

In this course, Julia McAdam, RGN, PGDip, MA, will discuss the impact of malnutrition and loss of muscle for oncology patients; identify practical ways to assess malnutrition and muscle mass and function; introduce the importance of nutrition as a key part of prehabilitation; and explain the nutritional needs of malnourished oncology patients. Originally presented as a live webinar on March 23, 2022.

Julia has worked as a lung cancer clinical nurse specialist for 19 years, working in both operational management and lead cancer nurse roles. She is currently the lead for her service in Shropshire, managing a caseload of 350 lung cancer patients with a team of four lung clinical nurse specialists. 

Julia has experience with lung cancer at all points of the patient pathway, but in recent years has developed her role to support patients at the beginning of their journey. The introduction of a prehabilitation service evolved after working closely with lung nurse specialists across the West Midlands. Julia has been a committee member of Lung Cancer Nursing UK since 2018 and has developed key relationships within the National Lung Cancer Audit Expert Advisory Group, and is involved in the development of a new digital health companion.
